The State Opening of the UK Parliament occurs in May with the monarch, as head of state, attending the ceremony. It's one of the rare occasions where the state crown is removed from the Tower of London and the monarch has to take a specific route to parliament and wear ceremonial robes for the occasion. Here they will deliver the Queen’s or King's speech setting out the government's agenda for the year.
