About the Event:
For the first six months of 2013, Ireland will hold the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union. This is Ireland's seventh Presidency and arguably its most important, as it comes at a critical moment for the future of the Union.
On 23 November 2012, the Institute of International and European Affairs (IIEA) hosted a Presidency Conference in Dublin Castle. This one-day conference outlined the policy priorities of the Irish Presidency and considered some of the major issues likely to feature on the agenda from January to June 2013.
The conference featured sessions on the Presidency priorities, economic governance and the future of European Monetary Union, the energy/ICT interface as a driver of green and smart growth, and the EU foreign policy agenda.
Keynote speakers included: An Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Eamon Gilmore T.D., Minister for Finance, Michael Noonan T.D., Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairi Quinn T.D., Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Pat Rabbitte T.D., and Maciej Popowski, Deputy Secretary General of the European External Action Service.
