Success in any cloning experiment depends on being able to identify the desired gene sequence among the many different recombinants that may be produced.
In cloning, it is necessary to select the particular cell that contains the specific gene of interest. This is difficult because out of millions of cells, only a very few cells might contain the desired gene.
