SS Bremen, the ocean liner launched in 1928, was one of the most beautiful passenger ships of the golden age of liners. She was a product of the Weimar Republic, the short-lived democratic society that preceded the dark Nazi era. This is her story, and how and why it can't be disentangled from an understanding of the Weimar era in general.
