While i’m getting the true experience of the Rockies with a May Blizzard, im working on media from the Loveland Pass crossing of the Continental Divide and just finished the video which is on the link in my bio.
I’m putting my stealth camping skills to work and am camped strategically in a baseball dugout that has protection from this ENE wind, and presumably, snow drifts.
The peak of Loveland Pass was extraordinarily gorgeous and stunning to see so many 14,000ft mountains and think THIS is where the rivers start! Only hit about 45mph cus the bags are so stuffed and wind resistance is exaggerated. There was also like a 10mph SW wind the day i crossed, but elevation can certainly overcome most of that resistance.
I’m still waiting for that speed limit..55…. .. Few more mountain passes to go and i hear Monarch Pass will probably help me break the law..
But it was certainly euphoric and profound to have crossed such a checkpoint on the #tdf. I have come so far in life in 2 years… #kidneystoneofhope
Anyways, turns out the Rockies have their own version of a Nor’easter where cold NW Arctic air comes down and hits warm wet SW Pacific air and turns back NE carrying that moisture and dumps a blizzard. 17” just a few mountains away they say, 9” expected here.
Baseball diamond is covered now.
Im making dinner, boiling rice while working on this video. Panniers repaired today as i got last package from the amazing donkey racing Lindsay that owns @blackburrobikes with her husband. Go check their shop out if u need anything, and/or want a beer, and/or want to camp behind their shop falling aeep to the roaring @arkansasriver 30ft away..
Think it’s time to add the broccoli.
