The purple-rumped sunbird is a small bird endemic to the Indian subcontinent.
Male and female birds can be easily differentiated by their physical appearance. The male has a green metallic crown and shoulder patch, a dark brown body with purple a rump, a purple throat, lemon-yellow underparts. The female has light grayish-brown wings, a white throat, and a yellowish chest.
