A cold wave has gripped large parts of North India including the national capital region. The minimum temperature recorded in Delhi-NCR today was 3.5 degrees Celsius. The cold wave condition prevailing for the last three days will continue until the weekend, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The severe cold wave conditions are due to widespread snowfall in hilly regions of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. The icy cold winds blowing from the mountains is sweeping through the plains of North India, thus bringing the mercury down significantly.
Srinagar, the summer capital of J&K witnessed the coldest night at -6.4 degrees on Thursday and Drass in Ladakh froze at -26-5 degrees which is the coldest the region has experienced this season. Meanwhile, IMD has issued an orange alert in Delhi which is also going under a spell a severe cold weather conditions.
