Stacy Korbelak, professor of English and director of the Schoenbrodt Scholars program, wanted to make sure that students taking her honors English composition courses would leave her classroom each semester with a practical, real-world writing and critical thinking experience. She liked the idea of having them study recent court cases. So, she came up with an idea of requiring her students to adopt and practice the role of an attorney. The idea blossomed further with the support of Judge Douglas Nazarian from the Maryland State Court of Special Appeals.
Honors Programs at HCC
Honors programs offer students the opportunity to enrich their education inside and outside the classroom. Students develop their leadership skills, travel abroad, engage in research, and give back to the community. At Howard Community College, they have also contributed to the college’s increase in the number of students completing their associate degrees.
