(19 May 1994) Veterans of the bloody Second World War battle of Monte Cassino on
Thursday (19/5) continued to commemorate the liberation of the
Italian town and monastery 50 years ago this month. The men from
Britain, New Zealand, Australia, Poland and Canada have been
marking the anniversary with remembrance services in the town.
Thursday's commemoration was led by Italian President Oscar Luigi
Scalfaro.
