The UN special force deployed in the Democratic Republic of Congo fired mortar rounds at the M23 rebels on Monday. An officer with the brigade said their attack was part of a joint assault led by the Congolese army to wipe out the rebellion. UN forces have until now backed the Congolese forces with aerial reconnaissance, intelligence and planning.
