Madeira Island was on weather red alert for wind and rain. Some hours before some planes diverted due to wind out of limits.
The Transavia flight TO3450 was inbound from Porto. The pilot did a great job fighting with the gusty wind coming from the mountains.
Because there's no ATC available, here's the METAR from that time:
