The Portuguese Fraternal Society of America (PFSA) hosted its annual Dia de Portugal symposium at its lecture hall on June 5, 2013. Portuguese diplomat Aristides de Sousa Mendes (1885-1954), the 'Angel of Bordeaux' and savior of 30,000 World War II refugees (10,000 Jews), was remembered and honored with presentations by Miguel Ávila, founding director and former president of the Sousa Mendes Foundation, Pierre Hahn, visa recipient, Anne Treseder, activist and co-founder of the International Committee to Commemorate Dr. Aristides de Sousa Mendes, and Nuno Mathias, Consul General of Portugal in San Francisco. The event also included an exhibit on Aristides de Sousa Mendes entitled "These are my people!" The event was co-sponsored by PFSA and Sousa Mendes Foundation.
