Video is of Solar Lighting Inc. testing the LEADSUN model AE3C commercial overhead lighting solution in harsh Canadian winter weather conditions. The temperature at the time of filming the video was -30°C (equivalent to -38°C with the windchill). It's no secret that the commercial solar lighting industry's Achilles heal is their poor performance in low temperature environments. This is largely due to the Lead Acid batteries commonly used for commercial solar lighting systems fail miserably when temperatures drop below -15°C.
LEADSUN's AE3C incorporates lithium LiFeP04 batteries with their optional proprietary thermal heating module that allow the LED light head to function optimally at temperatures below -30°C for durations in excess of 12 hours. In addition LEADSUN lithium LiFeP04 batteries offer 3 times more storage and power capacity than conventional Lead Acid batteries without having to compensate for the size and weight of Lead Acid batteries. Lithium Iron batteries are also able to discharge to an incredible 90% without any damage to them before the under voltage battery protection ‘cuts out’ any further operation.
