Hi there Honda owners. Today on your 2019 Honda HRV, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install Curt's 1-1/4 inch trailer hitch receiver. This hitch is a Class I 1-1/4 by 1-1/4 receiver with a reinforced collar here at the back that gives it a more robust look. But what I like about this hitch is how far it's tucked underneath the vehicle, because the cross tube is exposed under it. But since we keep everything sucks so far back, we don't really notice anything, but the receiver here sticking out the back.It uses a 1/2 inch hitch pin and clip. Now, one doesn't come included with the hitch, but we've got plenty available here etrailer.com.

On bottom, we have plate style safety chain loops with a fairly large opening that should accommodate just about every size safety chain that you'd want to use with it. It features a 200 pound tongue weight, which is the force going down on top of the receiver. That should be plenty for a two bike platform rack loaded up with a couple of bikes on it.You can also put a cargo carrier on here, but you're not going to be loading up those cargo carriers near their max capacity. It also features a 2000 pound gross towing capacity, which is how much that it can pull behind it. As always, I recommend that you verify in your vehicle's owner's manual and ensure you don't exceed any of its towing capacities.

Now I've got some measurements for you to help you when deciding on accessories.From the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the rear bumper, it measures about five inches. That's important when determining if any of your folding accessories can be placed in the upright storage position without contacting the bumper. And from the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube, it measures about 14 inches. This is important when determining if you need to drop, rise, or raised shank on any of your accessories.We'll begin our installation underneath the rear of the vehicle. If you have an under shield, you'll need to trim out a section for your hitch to fit.

If not, then you can just move along to the next section of the video here. I've gone ahead and marked out the area that we need to cut out. And this is going to give us access to the frame above it, where our hitch is going to attach to. So we're just going to trim around this with our cutoff wheel here until we've got our access hole.We can just pop that piece out of there. Sometimes you may need to hit the corners a little bit more if you didn't quite cut all the way through.

In many cases, you can just pop them out, but it looks like I'll need to hit that one down there just a little bit more. Now you can see where we're going to be attaching our hardware. The smaller hole towards the rear is where the hardware's going to drop down, and the larger hole is our access hole we're going to use to feed it in.We can then take a file and clean up our rough edges. We're not going to drop down the exhaust a bit to give us some more room to work. There's two exhaust hangers here at the back, one on each side of the muffler. We're just going to spray the hangers with a little bit of silicone lubricant. That'll just make them slide off a little bit easier. And then we can just take our pry bar and pop those off of there. To make clearance for our hitch to sit properly on the bottom of the frame, our heat shield here is a little bit in the way. We don't need to remove anything, we can just take this section right here and just bend it down.We're just getting it out of the way, just kind of bending in as close to the bolthead there that we can. We can now take the fish wire that comes in our kit, we're going to go through the small hole towards the rear of the vehicle, and we're going to then feed it towards the front where we can pull it down through the large hole, located further up. Sometimes to make it easier to do this, so you can take your fish wire and give it a little bit of a bend, help it angled down towards the hole.Then we're going to pull the coil then out, down through the large hole. Now we can feed on our hardware. You'll have two different length carriage bolts that come in your kit. We're going to be using the longer one on the driver side. And you want to pay close attention to them because they're very close to the same length, but one is slightly longer than the other. We can then take our spacer, slide it onto our bolt, and we're going to thread
