Trump's first impeachment - 2020
Responding to President Donald Trump’s lawyers, Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif., said the seven House Democrats, who are serving as managers during the impeachment trial, are not asking the Senate to do the House’s job, but to do its own job and hold a fair trial. “Have you ever heard of a trial that doesn’t have evidence, that doesn’t have witnesses?” Lofgren said, speaking in support of an amendment that would require the Senate to subpoena more evidence and witnesses from the White House. Trump’s lawyers accused the House managers of being unprepared and failing to gather enough evidence before handing the impeachment process over to the Senate. Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives in December on two articles — abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The trial will determine whether Trump is convicted of those charges and remove him from office, or acquitted.
