Last night, President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the nation on the outcomes of the 15th BRICS Summit, held recently in Johannesburg.
The President also made his pronouncement on the conclusion of the independent panel investigation into the alleged claims that arms were loaded into the Russian vessel, Lady R, which docked at the Simons Town navy base in December last year. He said there was no evidence South Africa had supplied arms to Russia. The panel, led by retired judge Deputy Judge President of the High Court in Johannesburg Phineas Mojapelo, handed its confidential report to President Ramaphosa in July, leading to civil society organisations, including the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse, calling for the government to be transparent on the panel's findings. To analyse the President's address, we are joined virtually by OUTA's Chief Executive Officer Wayne Duvenage.
