Laos has the unwanted distinction of being the most heavily bombed country in human history. During the Vietnam War (1964 -1973) the United States SECRETLY conducted more than 500 000 bombing raids over Laos in an effort to cut off supply lines to North Vietnam.
More than 2 million tons of explosive ordnance ( more than used in the entire WW2 ) was dropped on Laos, a country smaller than the UK or conversely more than 2 tons of bombs for every citizen of Laos
Many of these bombs remain today as unexploded ordnance (UXO) causing at least one death a day and untold maiming for those who survive .
It estimated that it will take decades for all these remaining bombs to be discovered and disarmed .
This is the story of 4 children.
Our thanks to UNICEF for the footage
