The second of Gershwin's Preludes is one of my all-time favorites. It's bluesy, it's ambiguous as if he can't make up his mind whether to write in minor or major and its beautiful, simplistic melody just sticks in your head for days.
I would like to dedicate this particular prelude to Nahye, fellow pianist and one of my good friends here in the US.
Gershwin dedicated his Preludes to his friend and fellow pianist-composer Bill Daly. During my time here at IU, I wanted to zoom in on classical pieces with a clearly or less clearly noticable influence of jazz music. Gershwin's Preludes were therefore ideal candidates for my program.
