Beautiful 7.10 CTS Natural untreated white opal cabochon originating from Ethiopia. This measures approximately 16 x 12.1 x 7.3 mm and is cut into a pear shape.
No damage or chips can be seen. Has a bright rich coloring with a great flash of pink, green, gold, orange and hints of purple as well. We are pleased to be able to offer this higher quality opal for our clients.
Ethiopian white opals provide an excellent value for consumers as they are the most durable type of opal, and are not susceptible to crazing and drying out like other forms of opal. They are also better priced than their Australian counterparts.
Ethiopian opals have an interesting history. Archaeologists say they have been mined there for about 6000 years, and the first source of opals in the world. Interestingly they were forgotten about for thousands of years and rediscovered in the 1990s.
