I’ve heard mixed emotions about removing these from crabs, I can’t imagine this barnacle was helping this crab. I researched as much as I could and understand it may have fallen off with molting, however I also heard they damage the reproduction system of the crab, essentially castrating the creature. Any one that actually knows if this was beneficial for the crab please let me know for future reference. I did not “give it a snack” because I heard they will just end up being eaten by a larger marine creature/fish. I love all wildlife and hope I did help this crab. I hope the crab survives and is able to reproduce. Please don’t judge me for this if I caused any harm, I love all wildlife and truly want to help any animal in suffering.
