Burkinabe civil society activists Ali de Goamma Tapsoba of the organisation Terre a Vie and Guy Yameogo of the organisation CESAO discuss their concerns with Target Malaria's gene drives mosquito project in Burkina Faso, including unanswered biosafety questions about the experiment from Target Malaria. In particular, Ali and Guy express their concerns about the lack of transparency surrounding Target Malaria's experimentation in Burkinabe villages, inadequate stakeholder engagement with the villagers by Target Malaria, the lack of free, prior and informed consent, and unethical practices of Target Malaria paying Burkinabe village youth to expose themselves to be bitten by mosquitoes, with the risk of them contracting malaria.
