Stage 9 will toss the riders out of the frying pan and straight into the fire with a day of relentless climbing in the Alps. Five punishing climbs are spread quite evenly throughout the 145km-long stage and together make for over 4,200m of climbing. The majority of this elevation gain is centered around the three climbs which fall around the halfway point of the day - the Col des Saisies (9.4km at 6.2%), the Col du Pré (12.6km at 7.7%) and the Cormet de Roseland (5.7km at 6.5%). It’s unlikely that we’ll see much GC action on these mountain passes however, instead most riders will have their sights fixed on the long, fatiguing drag to the 2,107m-high finish line in Tignes.
