I climbed a steep cliff to film a CSX manifest freight pulled by 3 huge locomotives! Look down into the coal cars and see the tops of the grain hoppers whiz by! A second huge train passed with a DPU in the middle and all kinds of freight cars including a flat car load of traction motors. Listen to the awesome sounds of these heavy trains passing by at track speed on welded rail! This is an old Louisville & Nashville coal line that runs from Corbin, Kentucky to Cincinnati, Ohio. Not much coal is left on the line but there are about 4 daily mixed freights. A few of the old L&N signals are still here and we found remnants of the pole line. This video shows an insulator that we found a while back and remnants of the pole line. It was difficult getting to the spot where I filmed because I had to get to the edge in order to get a clear shot. The right of way is heavily overgrown and the winter is the only time you can get a clear shot filming from the hillside. This is my friend Steve's farm and I had permission to film here. There is also an awesome view of the river and a barn that I show in the video. CSX recently replaced rail and ties here. The last time that I was here I camped out 2 nights to film the trains. Here is that video: [ Ссылка ] I camped out because my previous visit came up dry and I decided that I wanted to stay until I saw a train here. That was a fun couple of nights camping by the tracks so don't miss that video. Trains use 161.370 to call out the signals. I don't know if the old L&N signals are still used. Trains did not call out these signals but I could hear a humming sound coming from the signal shanty. Filmed December 28, 2020. Thanks for watching!
