Adam and Ash show you how to prune Kiyohime Acer (Japanese Maple) bonsai trees.
Kiyohime Acers do not back bud as well as many of the other varieties and cultivars of Japanese Maple. Many of them respond well to pruning - the produce adventitious buds on older wood, meaning that we can prune them back to bare wood with a high degree of confidence that we will get new shoots. Due to this, we have to prune them more carefully.
We'll show you how to prune them and talk about the best times of year to do this. The best times are in winter and after the foliage has hardened off in late spring.
The video was shot in early April 2022 at All Thing Bonsai, Sheffield, Yorkshire, U.K.
Thanks for watching and please remember that we sell Japanese Maple bonsai trees and lots of other species at www.allthingsbonsai.co.uk
