African Savanna Elephants (Loxodonta africana) love water – not only to drink, but also to play in, and to cool off on hot days , either by submerging if the water is deep enough, or by spraying themselves with trunkfuls of it. Young bull Elephants often associate – this group of six were at Transport Dam in the southern region of Kruger National Park. They had been feeding in the woodland near the dam, and then they decided to enter the water and immediately began drinking, play-fighting and bathing. One of the young bulls has abnormal, downward-pointing tusks. The plaintive bird call is that of a Water Thick-knee, or Dikkop in Afrikaans.
