Located inside the Ratapani Wildlife Sanctuary at the foothills of the Vindyas, Bhimbedkta is a group of 750 rock shelters spread across 7 hills covering an area of about 100 square kilometers.
A UNESCO World Heritage, Bhimbedka gives a glimpse of the earliest traces of human life in the Indian Subcontinent dating back to the Stone Age.
These sandstone cave shelters, inhabited over 100,000 years ago, provide a rare glimpse into human settlement and cultural evolution from hunter-gatherers, to agriculture, and expressions of prehistoric spirituality.
The rock paintings of Bhimbetka are among the earliest signs of human creative expression recorded in India dating back to the Mesolithic times. These cave paintings show themes such as animals and hunting and early evidence of dance.
