'This strategy might be a new way of looking at brain conditions. Invent a tool, help people discover new scientific findings using the tool, design practical implementations that can go out to the world and deploy them.'
Ed Boyden is a Professor in Neurotechnology at MIT, and an investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and the MIT McGovern Institute. He leads the Synthetic Neurobiology Group, where he has been developing tools like optogenetics and expansion microscopy to understand and repair the brain.
In this session he covers how he and his team at MIT are working to better understand the brains complexities and therefore how best to repair it if and when it becomes diseased.
