Hey Sprouts
So I have been asked to do a basic video on mounting bromeliads to wood. So this video shows just that. What is an epiphyte, what does it mean and what do you need to keep in mind when mounting a bromeliad.
Always remember:
Know a little bit about your plant before you mount.
Mount a younger plant (preferably one which has NOT yet flowered)
Mount it on the rainy side of the tree if you're not in a high rainfall area.
Try not to hurt the plant during the mounting process.
Remember if it is a tank bromeliad (.ie. one that holds water) mount it in an upright position so the plant is still able to collect water when receiving rain or being watered manually.
Most Bromeliads benefit from a liquid foliar fertilizer during the growing season.
Once mounted water it regularly until the plant is well rooted. Then slow it to 'normal' watering.
Well, that is pretty much it. I hope this video helps clear things up.
Pity I don't have my old garden to show you how many I have mounted in my lifetime and how well they do in conjunction with orchids or other epiphytic species.
