This film is about the experiences of relatives who have taken on the care of children when the parents are no long able to look after them, often referred to as 'informal kinship care'. The interviewees are from a groundbreaking piece of research, commissioned by Buttle UK with the University of Bristol, and funded by the Big Lottery Fund, which is the first in depth study of the experience of children living within informal kinship care arrangements. It provides insights into how well both emotionally and academically these children are doing, but also what the impact of such arrangements have on both children and carers and the huge challenges that the group faces with very little existing support.
