In this video we run through how to administer an intracavernosal injection (aka peinle injection) using a compounded preparation - whist there is a lot to take on board to do it correctly by follwing this step by step guide you'll be confident you're doing it correctly and safely; the result being a better experience, relief/confidence, improved safey and optimal result. Once watching this video, it would be suggested that you watch our video demonstrating the technique into a REAL penis - whilst a much shorter video, it puts the theory into practice; again insuring that you are confident and thus more likely to get it right (as getting it WRONG is too much to bear)
In summary , there are important 3 steps to correctly and optimally perform the injection (noting it is best done standing; if standing is impracticle then sitting is ok however the patient should be sitting on a HARD surface - ie NOT a bed or couch as the bum sinks into it and pulls the penis back inside the body):
1. Stretch the penis out to its full length nice and straight out in front of the body. If uncircumcised it is important to retract the foreskin completely so that the glans (aka head) of the penis is exposed and able to be firmly held thus stopping it from slipping. Of course if circumcised then its just a matter of grasping behind the glans firmly
2. Broadly swab the area of the shaft of the penis approximately where the injection will be done and then, assuming the correct dose of the medication is ready in the syringe to be injected, inject as you would hold a dart at the 2 or 10 position (per the clock face) - that being on the upper surface as a slight angle. The needle should be inserted full depth (12.7mm is the prefered needle length to use) to ensure that the medication goes in the optimal spot. If there is a drop of blood post injection simply apply pressure to the injection site for 5-10 seconds and it will stop
3. This is the bit MOST men/partners forget - massage the penis! This massage, very different to the motion of masturbation, should occur for at least 30 seconds and should be pretty firm (about the firmness of a handshake). This massage should be of both the external penis and what we call the inner part of the penis. If done well this distributes the medicine completely through the cavernosal tissue (penile erectile tissue) ensuring that a maximal result occurs with pain minimised. Forgetting this can result in a sub par erection, greater discomfort or failure so be sure to get this bit correct.
Please of course follow the directions of your medical practitioner and if unsure as to what you're doing or how you're meant to do it please again consult your prescribing physician.
