The hybrid electric train or the HET developed by the Department of Science and Technology or the DOST has started its 150-hour validation test at the PNR, its full commercial operation on the railway.
PNR General Manager Jun Magno stated that although the HET is currently running in the railway line, it is still under the ownership of DOST. He added that PNR train riders are riding the said train free of charge yet.
The HET would run three loops a day, on the PNR’s Alabang to Calamba route spanning 28 kilometers and eight stations, a total of 16 stations in one loop.
Moreover, PNR personnel were given training on running and maintaining the HET since late April.
The PNR is also looking into adding more hybrid trains into the railway system.
