Are you looking to navigate the complexities of digital transformation? IMR hosted an insightful webinar titled “Unlock Your Digital Transformation Journey: Strategies for Delivering Maximum Impact.” The session brought together industry leaders and digital transformation experts to discuss practical strategies for manufacturers to remain competitive in a rapidly changing landscape.
With discussions led by IMR’s Chief Innovation Officer Andrew Lynch, Senior Smart Industry Advisor Gael Beaulieu, Commercial Director Nick Rowe, and guest speaker Martin Egan, Managing Director of Bijur Delimon, the webinar provided real-world insights on implementing digital strategies effectively.
At the start of the webinar, Andrew Lynch emphasised the critical role of digital transformation in securing the future of European manufacturing. He highlighted how Europe has historically been a leader in manufacturing innovation, but today faces increasing competition from tech giants like Google and Tesla. Andrew stressed the importance of adopting advanced technologies, such as ERP systems, digital twins, and AI-driven tools, to stay competitive in a high-cost economy like Ireland. He warned that manufacturers who fail to innovate and embrace digital transformation risk being left behind, much like the German automotive industry that underestimated Tesla’s rise.
One of the key highlights was Martin Egan’s case study on Bijur Delimon’s digital transformation journey. Over the past few years, his company transitioned from a traditional paper-based manufacturing operation to a cutting-edge smart factory utilising Industry 4.0 technologies. Martin emphasised the importance of empowering employees, integrating Lean methodologies with digital tools, and ensuring leadership commitment to successfully navigate the complexities of digital transformation.
Throughout the session, the challenges many organisations face, such as where to start, which technologies to prioritise, and how to maintain momentum were all discussed. Gael Beaulieu and Nick Rowe both emphasised the importance of not just focusing on technology, but aligning digital strategies with business goals for maximum impact. Tools like the WEF-supported SIRI (Smart Industry Readiness Index) assessment were recommended as essential for understanding a company’s current digital maturity and identifying areas with the highest potential for improvement.
To reiterate Andrew’s message, “digital transformation is no longer optional—it’s essential for survival and growth in the manufacturing sector.”
