This video shows how you can reprogram the suspension values of the air ride suspension on a Ram 1500 with the 4-corner air suspension. This helps you level the truck and/or fix your notorious "Rebel Lean" where your Ram Rebel (and sometimes other models) will lean toward the drivers side instead of auto-leveling. For whatever reason, the software seems to get out of calibration, often in very cold weather, and you need to re-enter the heights. Here's a quick how-to of that process.
Sorry for the glare, it was very sunny today!
This video is of my 2016 Ram 1500 Rebel. This will save you $$ in the hundreds vs. going to a dealership to have it reprogrammed. Most of the time they will replace a $1500 compressor or your entire suspension before they charge you $500 to re-calibrate the values as I do in this video.
(*Please note you may actually have a hardware issue (blown air bag or failed compressor or fuse) in which case this process will not fix your problem. Also, if you mess up your settings with AlfaOBD, I am not responsible for any damage or anything that voids your warranty. I don't want to scare you because the app/process is VERY SIMPLE and straightforward, but I just have to say it.)
I believe for 2017 or 2018+ models, you will need an additional harness but I have not done this to those model years. Join the Ram Rebel Owners facebook group and the guys with those models can chime in.
***MAKE A BACK UP OF YOUR "SYSTEM STATUS PAGE" THAT I SHOW IN THIS VIDEO, OR AT THE VERY LEAST, WRITE DOWN YOUR ORIGINAL SUSPENSION HEIGHTS BEFORE YOU MAKE ANY CHANGES.***
*Yes, you can use this method to level your truck front to back INSTEAD OF LEVELING LINKS, but I highly recommend an actual leveling kit (such as Day Star spacers) because the higher you program it, the stiffer the ride will be. Not only unsafe, but uncomfortable and can blow your air bags too. The Day Star spacers will allow you to add 2" in the front but still ride with factory suspension compression.
Originally, my suspension heights from the factory were 51/53/51/51 (Front Right/Front Left/Rear Right/Rear Left).
I had the “Rebel Lean” toward the divers side (about 1.5" lower on the drivers side), so I played with the numbers in the app, adding to the left until the truck was level. I am now at 61/53/53/51. This video shows me adding 1mm more to the front left to get it just right. Before filming I was at 60/53/53/51.
The Alfa OBD app is $49 and I used a $50 Amazon Fire HD 8. The app does not work on iOS. The Bluetooth scanner I’m using is the OBDLink MX+ which I believe was about $80 on amazon.
In all, I spent about $180 and an hour or two getting used to the behavior of the app. The process now takes me all of 3 minutes if I want to make adjustments.
You can do a LOT more with this app such as keep your fog lights on with the hi beams, reprogram tire size for speedometer calibration (as well as ABS), and thousands of other things. I just show the suspension adjustment in this video.
