We visited Elephant Jungle Sanctuary in Phuket Thailand where almost all of the elephants are rescued. We did the afternoon program that involves feeding, mud bath, and river bath with the elephants.
Time
Now after the trip, I've realized that this might not be the most ethical as "ethical" some people would say as it still includes a lot of interaction with the tourists. I spoke to the guide on duty when we visited and learned so much about these gentle giants, I'd say I learned a lot from this trip, and definitely an eye opener on how we can care more about them, and how to spread awareness regarding NO to elephant riding and other animal cruelty.
Although to some people ESJ won't be considered a sanctuary per se, In my experience they treated the elephants with love and care, and I did not see any elephants doing forced work. There are some areas that ESJ needs to improve but I'd say overall it was absolutely worth it. I've never experienced anything like this before but I'm glad I did and thank you for making this fantastic interaction with elephants come true.
