This video is designed to help parents reflect upon their own anxiety and the overshielding of their children. Sometimes this manifests as over-comparing of developmental milestones in a way that increases pressure on their child and stresses the parent out.
A starting point could be to take a safe, cushioned step rather than attempting to change anything radically and at great speed. What is something that you could do that is a small stretch outside of your comfort zone? Begin by being really honest about what it is that is fuelling your anxiety. It’s probably not something on the outside world, but rather, something on the inside world and related to how you are thinking.
Where did your own anxieties come from? It can be worthwhile doing an audit to figure out whether the fears, worries and anxieties are actually yours or whether they were inherited from the parenting you experienced yourself as a child.
