A severe lack of water is the primary issue in Kandahar. Families and children alike are clamouring for water from the truck.
However, domestic users in Afghanistan are also worried about the water crisis. Some Kabul locals claim that the water table has fallen dramatically and that most wells have dried up, presenting new challenges in ensuring a reliable supply of potable water.
Residents of Kabul are now struggling with a shortage of access to clean drinking water as a result of declining groundwater levels in various areas throughout Afghanistan.
In particular, since the beginning of 2022, groundwater levels in Kabul have dropped by as much as 50 percent due to excessive consumption.
A recent poll found that 79% of Afghan homes have water shortages. With the already harsh economic situation, freezing winter, drought and water shortages have become a new obstacle for regular people to overcome.
People's lives have been negatively affected by hunger, poverty, unemployment, lack of security, and inadequate healthcare and education.
In addition, medical experts warn that many illnesses would proliferate, especially among children in rural areas, if clean drinking water wasn't made available.
A recent poll by UNICEF shows over 8 in 10 Afghan families have experienced a severe water scarcity, making it difficult for the population to regularly drink clean and safe water.
"Afghanistan's severe water shortage is an issue that Helping Orphans can assist alleviate.
