I'll show you how to freeze, store and then use your leeks so you can avoid them going in the bin!

So, Leeks - Can I Freeze It?

👍 Yes, indeed!

❄️ Slicing and open freezing is a great way to be able to preserve your leeks without them freezing solid in a big block.

💧 If you are storing your leeks for a while then you might want to blanch them before freezing. Check out my cheatsheet ([ Ссылка ]) for more info about blanching.

🔥 If you are adding them to a dish such as a pie or quiche and you're concerned about your leeks making it soggy, simply fry them over a fairly high heat to evaporate the excess moisture before adding them to your dish. No need to defrost before cooking!

📆 Frozen leeks are best to use them within a few months though, as ice will start to build up over time. They'll still be safe to eat even if they're a bit icy, but the quality will degrade. Blanching them will help to preserve them for up to 6 months.

💚 If you use plastic freezer bags, they can be washed and reused, then once they wear out, they can now be recycled in the UK alongside carrier bags at supermarket collection points. Please wash well and dry before recycling. Please note compostable and biodegradable bags should not be put in plastics recycling. Look for the Home compost symbol when purchasing compostable freezer bags.
