We set off from Dominical into the Central Valley of Costa Rica. Along the way stopping in Zarcero. A small town in the in the northern hills of San Ramon in the Cordillera Central lies this scenic town. Located in the San Jose Highlands on the edge of the Central Valley, this town is the capital city of the canton of Alfaro Ruiz and one of the many striking villages in the province of Alajuela. With an elevation of 1,736 meters, Zarcero offers picturesque views of the surrounding coffee plantations and a quiet place for travelers to stop and relax. If you want to experience a small Costa Rican town that’s not overrun by tourists, visit Zarcero. You’ll see local kids and families hanging out at the park and farmers chatting and drinking coffee in the mornings. It’s an incredibly nice experience for tourists.
Then we drove through Grecia which is nestled in the foothills of the Cordillera Central mountain chain, It's a small farming community with some big attractions. This picturesque town is about 20 minutes north of Alajuela city and offers some of the most incredible scenery anywhere. It is also known as the cleanest little town in Central America, due to an award given a few years back. We really enjoyed walking through the Central Market and having a very tasty lunch.
