As New York heads into what could be day 4 of an ongoing heat wave, Con Edison asked some Western Queens residents to reduce their power use to avoid blackouts in the area. Con Ed made the request just before 9 p.m. Monday, the utility company saying it had reduced voltage by 8% in the area as a precaution to protect equipment and maintain service as crews made repairs.
