Over the last few weeks I have been working on a new prototype braking system for my k'nex roller coaster projects.
This system uses strong neodymium magnets placed only 1-2mm up above a long 3mm thick piece of aluminium.
when the magnets ride over the top of the aluminium it creates and eddy current. this is seen in the form of resistance, slowing down the train.
these currents get stronger with speed so the slower the train goes, the weaker the forces gets.
that is why the train never comes to a compleate stop until it reaches the flat part of track at the end.
