(4 Nov 2020) THE ESTEFANS' PANDEMIC SILVER LINING: HEALING FROM DIVORCE, SELF-RELFECTION AND SPENDING TIME WITH THE DOGS
Gloria Estefan says being forced into isolation due to the coronavirus pandemic gave her a good opportunity to enjoy some much-needed time at home.
Sitting still, however, isn't always high on her husband Emilio's list - a man who the singer describes as being in "constant motion."
"Even on weekends, getting him to relax was like, 'Oh, no, we're going to dinner here. Oh, no, we're gonna go out here. We're gonna go there.' And now, he could go nowhere but the studio," she says.
Estefan also got to hang out with her four legged friends.
"I took my five dogs and went to Vero Beach and just three months in my beach house, spending one on one time with my pets that also need attention. And I love being home. So nobody had to force me. I had spent two years traveling nonstop. So to be able to be in my home and just breathe. Even though I didn't stop working, but I, I didn't have to make excuses to stay home. I could just say, 'Oh, well, you know, I got to be home. Sorry. Got to stay home. What a shame. I am staying home.'"
Gloria's niece, "El Gordo y La Flaca" TV host Lily Estefan, finalized her ongoing three-year divorce in February, a month before the lockdown.
She joked that her life felt like it was "paralyzed" before the shutdown, so not much changed.
However, Lily did get to spend time with her children during that period which she says was "perfect."
"I'm one of the very few people that say I actually found peace in this pandemic," she says.
Gloria's 25 year-old daughter, Emily Estefan, used lockdown as an opportunity for self-reflection.
"For me, it was stopping to run away from stuff," she says. "The silver lining of the pandemic is like you in the ring with yourself, whatever that means to you."
