The first, short, book of the Dialectic introduces the system of concepts of pure reason. Kant explains what an 'idea' is, in his terminology, and argues that the three ideas of pure reason are the soul (and its immortality), the world (and freedom), and God. This triple will determine the structure of the long second book of the Dialectic.
