The composer writes about his work:

"'Raum der Nacht' is the first of three pieces inspired by the Goldberg Variations by J. S. Bach. 'Raum der Nacht' is both a reflection and a metaphor. The reflection of time is expressed through means such as slow unfolding, meditative state, contemplation. I listened to the variations, then I wrote down everything that was stored in my memory. I noticed in different variations some common forms of movement, which I adapted. The metaphor of the night, the silence that surrounds the sounds and envelops everything in silence - the image that was required to be embodied - was deeply felt in the Aria and in Variation 25.
The piece was composed in 2019 at the suggestion of composer Violeta Dinescu for the project of German musicologist Prof. Michael Heinemann: Goldberg! Variations of Bach / Goldberg! Variations on Bach."
