Petition for paid leave: [ Ссылка ]
I had the honor of asking Senator Gillibrand of New York some questions about paid leave and how we can advocate for this for ourselves and loved ones.
I am a physician married to a physician.
I didn't have paid maternity leave.
My husband didn't get any leave at all. If he doesn't work, he doesn't get paid.
In order to get some sort of salary while on maternity leave after a traumatic birth, I had to use vacation days, sick days, and take out short-term disability.
The U.S is one of just six countries without any form of national paid leave.
We are one of the most powerful countries in the world.
The global average for paid maternity leave is 29 weeks.
NATIONALLY, WE ARE AT ZERO.
What sort of message are we sending families? Do we want parents to work? Or do we want them to stay home? The system isn't helping us.
I spoke with Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and we want to hear from you!
