Freediving off of the California Channel Islands with my UCSB colleague and friend, Robin Francis. We are expressing our concerns for our California Kelp Forest Ecosystem after a long heating period off the Pacific. This topic is a hot topic because the kelp forests supply us with air and fish with shelter. I like to consider it like the temperate ecosystem has a fever. IF the temperature does not decrease we will not have the ability to recover these ecosystems and the animals that live within.
I was involved in a near fatal accident and this was my first time back at sea. It was incredibly important for me to get back into the ocean and it felt really great to have such a great crew to support me in my efforts. I love the ocean, but most importantly the Channel Islands are my home away from home. Thanks for the taking the time to watch this little clip from my Travel Channel experience!
