Welcome to my first video I am a rookie to you tube.I am 80 years old and still getting to grips with modern technology. I have always worked using my hands working in the building industry. Now I have retired I like to keep active as I believe it keeps me alive. With time on my hands (excuse the pun) in today's throw away society it gives me pleasure to bring back to life and appreciate the design and quality of these discarded forgotten objects .For example old brass kitchen weighing scales or a old industrial metal lamp ,which both items are much in demand these days, restored or unrestored .
I have watched some fantastic restoration videos that put my first effort to shame, but I am learning and would appreciate your comments so I can learn from my mistakes. I hope you watch my videos and future projects and subscribe to my channel which would make an old man happy thank you.
FIRST PROJECT
My first project is a vintage blow torch, I bought for a couple of quid. The company that produce the product was established in 1882 by three brothers and after four generations albeit new owners still use the name Sievert
My aim was to get it working again which I did achieve, but it took away all the restoration work losing its shine. I think its a lovely design and is like a piece of art in its self,
To clean it, I do experiment with homemade concoction. This mixture is toothpaste with baking soda and salt. It needed a lot of elbow grease to remove all the 70 years of grime. I could have spent more time buffing and polishing but i am pleased with the finish as it must be as old as me and looking better than me now, shame we cant restore ourselves that would make good viewing , I will have to get the old girl to buff me up.
