'Trying ' is from my new album 'Honestly', which is out now. This is a song for anyone who feels they are struggling to live up to societal expectations (perfect physical and mental health/a sturdy job/marriage/kids etc) and the shame and frustration that goes with it. I've struggled living in the age of instagram vs reality, feeling constantly bombarded with what success looks like and I often berate myself for falling short of my Ideal Self. But it's our Authentic Self that we need to nurture and that takes time, acceptance and self compassion. Anyone who offers up unwarranted solutions or judgement is focusing on what we lack, not what we have and usually it's just a reflection of how they perceive themselves anyway. So this song is a big ol' extended middle finger the face of judgement! Judgement of others and our own self critique. We’re all going through something and if we’re not quite where we want to be in life it’s not for lack of trying.
