It's been a week of drama and revelations at the Zondo Commission into State Capture. Former Minister, Nomvula Mokonyane, gave evidence in response to claims of the former Bosasa COO, Angelo Agrizzi. After initially denying that she had a party at a guesthouse in Krugersdorp, she said she now remembered she had her 40th birthday party there; but it was a surprise party and she did not know it was paid for by Bosasa. Deputy Chief Justice, Raymond Zondo, was skeptical about her claims that food and drink donated by Bosasa including fine liquor were donated to the poor.
Then the former Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Correctional Services, Vincent Smith testified about an R600 000 payment from Agrizzi. At the same time the Auditor General this week said that weak controls and the rapid procurement of PPE in the light of COVID-19 recently created fertile ground for corruption. To discuss we're joined by Professor Ivor Sarakinsky from the Wits School of Governance.
