(28 Aug 2015) Eighteen Romanians have been detained in Hungary on suspicion of people smuggling, according to Romanian foreign ministry officials in Bucharest on Friday.
The officials said that none of the Romanians were connected to the truck in which 71 bodies of migrants were found on an Austrian highway on Thursday.
A Romanian foreign ministry official said a Romanian had been detained and was being investigated for people trafficking after a vehicle he was driving overturned in Hungary.
He was treated for slight injuries at hospital before being detained.
Another Romanian is also being investigated for people smuggling in the central Hungarian city of Fejer, the official said.
Earlier, the ministry said four Romanians were being investigated for people smuggling and a further 12 were arrested and questioned.
