Gordon's Bay is a Harbour town in the Western Cape Province of South Africa.
The road distance from Cape Town to Gordon's Bay is 54 kms. The area is named after Robert Jacob Gordon(1743 - 1795), a Dutch explorer of Scottish Descent.
Gordon's Bay is a superb tourist attraction for the local and international travelers. The area makes for a great weekend getaway or for a longer stay for the tourist who loves the beach lifestyle. Gordon's Bay has some of the best beaches in the Cape, beautiful white sand, rock pools, shallow paddling areas and calm seas. The sea is also much warmer here than you will find on the Atlantic Coast.
The anchor that you see on the mountain with the letters GB on it does not stand for Gordon's Bay. It actually stands for General Botha. The history behind the anchor is to be found on this brass plaque situated on the Gordon's Bay Beach Front. This area is a tourist attraction well worth visiting.
There are many different things to do in Gordon's Bay, but its worth a visit just to see the most incredible sunsets, which are among the most beautiful in the country. Gordon's Bay is known and most famous for its spectacular sunsets. The beach at Gordon's Bay is child friendly and has a stretch of milkwood trees that provide nice shady picnic spots. Bikini Beach enjoys blue flag status and is the hang out spot for hip and trendy visitors. The area also offers some amazing dining places, scenic coastal drives, hiking trails which lead to some gorgeous natural rock pools. You will also find the Gordon's Bay Yacht Club and Gordon's Bay Boat Angling Club here.
Gordon's Bay offers a quiet, romantic beach retreat with some of the best sunsets you will ever see. It's all about slowing down, relaxing, skipping the crowds and spending quality time exploring one of the best kept secrets of the Western Cape.
